Hi, I'm new to this forum. This is my very first post. I'm here because I'm looking for advice about a project we want to implement within our intranet. I am a self-trained web designer and programmer. I've built several successful web applications so my skills are always improving. I am currently being challenged to create a somewhat extensive search page that will allow an end user to query a relational database. This database resides in Filemaker pro but we plan to transfer the data into sql server and hopefully develop a web interface to query the tables from within Sharepoint 2007. This, we hope, will also allow 3 or 4 users to view the data through sharepoint.
I'm not very familiar with Sharepoint 2007 and I am wondering if this is even possible. Has anyone any experience developing a "web-page like" search page that can query a relational database, display the data queried, allow for updates, deletions? I've spent some time reading what sharepoint can do in terms of content management but I'm not clear on the necessary components to implement a web-application directly from within sharepoint.
We can, of course develop this directly to the web but we're trying to avoid having to develop a login script with special permissions for specific individuals. This is why we thought we could try developing the application and access it through Sharepoint 2007.
Any advice would be appreciated.
thanks and have a great day!
