Where do you think the biggest repercussions will be felt from the implementation of the new features of SQL Server?
Without a doubt it would have to be XML. This is where SQL Server 2000 really shines in my opinion. This feature makes it so easy to get and display XML data in a Web browser. Beginning SQL Server 2000 For Visual Basic Developers has a couple of chapters dedicated to XML and shows just how easy it is to get XML data from SQL Server and display it on the Web. Both XML and XSL are covered and shows the readers how to create simple and intuitive Web reports. However, SQL Server 2000's XML features are not just for the Web. You can retrieve XML directly from SQL Server and also use it in your VB components.
Are there any developments of SQL Server would you like to see in the future?
I would like to see the debugging features in the Query Analyzer enhanced. Microsoft made some attempts to enhance this in SQL Server 2000 but still falls short on an intuitive interactive debugger.
...and finally, who would be your guests at a fantasy dinner party? Would anyone from the computer world be there?
Since I eat and breathe computers my fantasy dinner guest would have to be Bill Gates and Michael Dell. Both of these men have provided so much in the way of technology. They both had a vision and the foresight to see into the future of personal computing and have provided so much to this industry. Since I also love history this would be a great time to learn more about what motivated these men and the trials and tribulations that they went through to be the forerunners in this industry.
