It's Monday, so it's time for part three of the Mac Mini Media Centre project entries - the software, or what makes the user interface look different to a normal computer.

  • Bad updating experience - Adobe Reader

    Posted: 30 Jun 2009 at 21:40 by Neil T.

One of the 'duties' you acquire as the member of the family who knows something about computers is that you end up trying to keep your parents' computer updated with software patches etc.

  • Vacation mode

    Posted: 30 Jun 2009 at 10:06 by Neil T.

This post is pre-recorded and by the time it goes live I should be on the first leg of my journey to France, which will involve a coach, a train, the London Underground, another train and finally a plane, with some walking peppered in between.

Via LifeHacker is a tool called BPM Analyzer. Feed it some music files, and it will analyse them to calculate the number of beats per minute.

  • The Diet

    Posted: 26 Jun 2009 at 19:29 by Neil T.

Over the past few months, I've been on a diet, of sorts. Not a very strict one, mind - I'm following the simple rule of eat smaller portions of healthier food and do more exercise.

  • Wanted: guest bloggers

    Posted: 26 Jun 2009 at 08:59 by Neil T.

As I've mentioned a few times, I'm going to be away on holiday from the 1st July until the 13th, which means I won't probably be blogging between those two dates. So that this blog isn't dead for 2 weeks, I'd like one or two people to log in a couple of times while I'm away and post something.

    Posted: 24 Jun 2009 at 08:43 by Neil T.

On Saturday I moved house again. Unfortunately we don't yet have internet, so I'm using the opportunity to watch some of the films that I own on DVD which I haven't seen before.

    Posted: 15 Jun 2009 at 17:49 by Neil T.

2 years ago I had grand plans for turning my Mac Mini into a media centre. As it happened, I never really got the project off the ground, but I'm looking at it again.

  • Bradford on the up

    Posted: 12 Jun 2009 at 11:59 by Neil T.

Between 2004 and 2006 I took a series of photos around Bradford, showing its run-down and dilapidated side. Spurned on by the news that Bradford has been named the world's first UNESCO 'City of Film', I decided to look again at the photographs and blog about what has changed in the 3+ years since the pictures were taken.

  • MT 4.26 and Facebook integration

    Posted: 11 Jun 2009 at 19:44 by Neil T.

I've upgraded Movable Type, the software which has powered this blog for almost 7 years, to the latest version 4.26 - full details about the update are here but beyond performance improvements and minor bug fixes it isn't earth-shattering.

  • Thoughts on Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard"

    Posted: 09 Jun 2009 at 19:57 by Neil T.

Apple released details of Snow Leopard yesterday at the WWDC. As it's not a significant upgrade over Leopard (aka 10.5), the upgrade price will be much cheaper than normal, at only $29.
