  • IIS Database Manager

Posted: 08 Jun 2009 at 17:55 by bdela

Back in March we released the RC of IIS Database Manager – a tool which allows you to manage databases remotely through the IIS remote management infrastructure. The tool will automatically pick up database connection strings from your web.config file and make them available to you in the UI – you can also create ad-hoc connections too. Over the next few days I’ll be posting overview of how to use some of the features of Database Manager and going into details of how it works where appropriate.

A few days ago we released the beta of IIS Search Engine Optimization Toolkit. The toolkit provides you with a number of features which can help you ensure that your site follows best practices with regards to how search engines crawl and parse your site as well as providing features for generating robots.txt files and sitemaps.

  • new IIS Manager for remote administration

Posted: 03 Jun 2009 at 18:56 by bdela

It’s a bit strange that my “back-to-blogging” post is about a new version of Remote Manager considering that my last post, way back in March 2008 was a Remote Manager post as well (I have a good reason for not blogging since then which you’ll see at the end of this post :-) What’s different? The new version has some internal changes but the major new feature is the ability to remotely manage IIS 7 on Windows Server 2008 R2 machines as well as Windows Server 2008 machines.

A few months back I posted[^] about the RC0 release of IIS Manager for Windows XP, 2k3 and Windows Vista. We've now released the RTM version which works with Windows 2008 (and we've removed the previous installs from www.iis.net). Both Bob and Carlos have posted about this and both have some good in

  • IIS 7 configuration: Extending existing Configuration

Posted: 10 Mar 2008 at 07:58 by bdela

In my last post[^] I gave a quick overview of how to extend configuration. More specifically I covered extending configuration by adding new sections to configuration. One thing I also mentioned was that you can extending existing configuration sections too - that's what this post is about. Extendin

In IIS 7 we introduced a completely new configuration system which is used by the IIS runtime and all our administration tools. The configuration system is based on distributed XML files that contain the configuration for IIS, ASP.NET and other components; flexibility in the configuration system als

  • Open for business...

Posted: 18 Jul 2007 at 23:51 by bdela

Well, I've finally gotten around to this. Since joining Microsoft and the IIS team I've been wanting to get this blog up and running but this small thing called "work" kept getting in the way. Today I've decided that enough is enough - time to get off my Irish ass and take 30 minutes to setup the bl

Posted: 21 Mar 2007 at 06:32 by Brian Delahunty

I haven't been blogging here in a while - partly because I've been busy getting life going over here and partly because I've been really, really, really busy in work. Work these days is in Microsoft - I'm a PM (Program Manager) on the IIS team and I own IIS Configuration and the IIS UI. I'll be blog

  • 15.4" Dell Laptop Screen WANTED!

Posted: 04 Sep 2006 at 15:06 by Brian Delahunty

Bit of a long shot here but I'll give it a try anyway. The 15.4 inch WSXGA+ screen on my Dell Inspiron 8600 has been "on the blink" for quite some time... in fact, the thing is more or less unusable. So, I was wondering if anybody knows someone selling a laptop with a 15.4inch screen compatible with

There is also a brilliant video about Photosynth up on Channel9 - "PhotoSynth: What. How. Why." Photosynth takes a large colle

I just started writing some utility classes to handle the downloading of files - nothing major, just simple wrappers around HttpWebRequest, FileWebRequest, etc.. As we use test first development here (most of the time) I started writing the unit tests and the situation got me thinking about how to
