This book gives a good gentle introduction to developing web applications with JSP and servlets, but it lacks the depth I need to serve as a reference for real development. I have found it useful, but I'll be selling it as soon as I find a really good reference book.

Every so often you find a technical book that is so superbly written you actually enjoy reading it, because you know you're going to be able to understand and learn more each time you pick it up. I'd been exposed to JSP's and servlets in our project, but I had never read anything about them. From the start of this book, through to the end, I found myself feeling so very glad I found this book, and so grateful to the authors, because the care and skill with which it was written makes it very easy to read and understand.
I recommend the book because the authors care how clear their material is. And for me it was crystal clear.

I was glad to find an out of print book called: Java Servlets and JSP. However, I was disappointed when I received it. The USPS left the box in the rain on my front steps. One side of the box was soaked causing the pages of the book to get wet. Upon opening I found the CD, which contains the material to perform the tutorials, to be cracked and unusable. My suggestion for the seller is to put books in a plastic bag and pack them well. Luckily, a friend has the book and I copied the CD; the wet pages dried out.

The book does not tell how to install MySQL on Windows as it appears always a problem by using the Wizard dialog. I tried both on XP and Vista.
