I used this textbook for an intro Computer Science class. It's a very easy to use and straight forward approach to Java. This was a great tool to go along with our Professor's lectures and program writing. The only drawback to this textbook is that it is not always as detailed as it needed to be. There were a couple times when I wanted to use the textbook as a reference to better understand a topic or something that I was struggling with, but it lacked the detail that I was looking for. One of the best features of the book is the many examples of written programs and coding errors. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a basic knowledge of Java.

I needed this book for a CSIS class in programming Java. The book does the job and is easy to understand.

Unlike most Java textbooks, this one actually does a reasonable job of downplaying the reliance on I/O and throwing everything into one method. Test methods are separated from methods which actually do computation.
(Two stars is about twice what I rate 90% of the intro-Java texts out there :-)
