I have to version of this book for AutoCAD 2009. I made the point to get the AutoCAD 2010 version. When the release for the next version of AutoCAD comes out, I will likely get it to. This book has everything in it an AutoCAD user needs. It is one of the best reference books available for the subject. I have been using AutoCAD and other CAD programs for over 17 years, and I have learned many things from this book. I would recommend it to any AutoCAD user, regardless of their experience. Anything you need to know about AutoCAD is in there. Even programming in LISP!

I have read some AutoCAD books from our library in the past, but this is only the second book I really bought. I needed a good updated one since my AutoCAD 12 book is getting really old.
The book is a full reference of all the functionality in AutoCAD, which is its main value. I bought it as a teacher of AutoCAD for students of Architecture.
It is not a tutorial to learn AutoCAD easily and efficiently. It is too complete. E.g. in the 3D modeling chapter almost every single option to set a 3D viewpoint is discussed. This is good for the sake of completeness, but it overkill for an end user.
Moreover, most of the examples, while related to architecture, are too simple and use feet and inches, without adding SI units in parentheses. A pity.

I bought the kindle version of this book. I haven't gotten very far into the book because two things have proven unworkable. First, the pictures, screen shots, etc. just don't resolve well on the my Gen 1 kindle. They might look good on the DX, though this book isn't listed as "optimized for DX". Secondly, and maybe more importantly, the table of contents isn't linked. Well, it is linked, to a copy of the table of contents a few pages later. But the chapter on organizing your drawings isn't linked to the first page of the chapter on organizing your drawings. For a reference book, this is pretty much a deal killer. On my kindle, with size 3 font, I have almost 40,000 locations. Could you imagine hunting around for chapter 4? I tried this book on kindle for the PC, and while the screen shots were slightly better, only slightly, the table of contents was similarly broken.
Having said all of this I liked the book so much I am going to order a dead-tree version.
UPDATE: 12-10
I have had some time with the print version of the book and felt I had to change my original rating from 1 to 4 stars as I didn't want a bad kindle book conversion to lower the score of this otherwise good book.
