I was really pleased to get a mail from Mary Jo the other day telling me she’s going to be on my side of the pond.  Mary Jo was one of my panellists at the Women in Technology lunch I held in Orlando last year.  Well she’s agreed to come over to campus and talk about her book on Microsoft 2.0, her perceptions of us, where we’ve come from, where we’re going, her opinions about us from the outside.

She’ll be at Microsoft’s main campus next Wednesday lunchtime  (22nd) for a Q&A session and  will talk about her book and to answer any questions about her view of Microsoft 2.0. This is a great opportunity for all of the Microsoftees in the UK who read her blog to meet someone who has been watching Microsoft from a business point of view for the last 20 years, and may have some great insights as to where she thinks Microsoft will be going in the next 20.  She did forecast in her book that we would buy Yahoo! But we all get stuff wrong sometimes :-)

An Outsider Looking In: Mary Jo Foley on Microsoft 2.0

ZDNet blogger Mary Jo Foley is going to be in the UK next week to talk about her recently published book, Microsoft 2.0, and other Microsoft-related topics of interest. Foley will be doing a live Q&A with Eileen Brown and taking audience questions. Come and hear someone who has had the chance to look at Microsoft from the outside-in for the past 20-odd years. Here how Foley got her start and why she keeps blogging about Microsoft, even when Google, Apple and various Web 2.0 darlings are seen as the new, hip companies to cover.

Mary Jo Foley has covered the tech industry for 25 years and has been keeping a close eye on Microsoft strategy, products, and technologies for most of that time.

An accomplished journalist, she has worked for various print and online publications including PC Magazine, CNET’s News.com, ZDNet, PCWeek/eWEEK, and Redmond magazine. As a commentator on the IT and business communities, Foley has appeared on CNBC, CNN, and Fox News as well as radio programs for the BBC, ABC Radio, and NPR.

Foley’s “All About Microsoft” blog is among the top business blogs and her perspective is valued throughout the tech community

So what questions should I ask her?  If you’ve got anything you’d like me to ask, please let me know and I’ll let you know what she says next week…
