Have you heard the term cloud computing? Are you interested in learning more about it? Amazon’s Jeff Barr will present an introduction to the Amazon Web Services from a technical and business point of view. After an introduction to the concept of cloud computing, Jeff will describe the principal Amazon Web Services including the Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), the Simple Storage Service (S3), the Relational Database Service, and the AWS Elastic Beanstalk. The talk will include technical details, use cases, and even a demonstration or two.

Jeff Barr is focused on furthering awareness among software developers of the opportunity to innovate and build businesses using Amazon Web Services. In this role, Jeff travels, speaks, blogs, and conducts virtual events.

 

Since early 2006, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has provided companies of all sizes with an infrastructure web services platform in the cloud. With AWS companies can requisition compute power, storage, and other services–gaining access to a suite of elastic IT infrastructure services as business needs dictate.

 

Barr has a longstanding interest in Web services and programmatic information interchange. He has held development and management positions at Microsoft, KnowNow, eByz, and Akopia and was a co-founder of Visix Software. He earned his bachelor’s degree in computer science from American University and performed graduate work in computer science at George Washington University. Jeff is currently a part-time graduate student in the Digital Media program at the University of Washington.

 

Jeff  has written over 1000 posts for the AWS blog and another 1100 for his personal blog. He’s been a technical reviewer for 4 books on web services wrote a chapter on advanced scripting for a book on Second Life, and is the author of Host Your Website in the Cloud, published by SitePoint in September of 2010.
