An introduction to Ubuntu for total beginners. This Meetup is for new users who are at the "barely can work a mouse" level... who do not yet understand how to use Copy & Paste.
Seriously... This discussion is for total beginners.... who want to know how to use their computer, with Ubuntu installed, to do everyday common tasks like, how to:
- browse the web
- copy and paste
- download and upload pictures and files
- basics of internet privacy
- discussion of the best ubuntu apps for common tasks
- problems and troubleshooting (bring your laptop or tower, if you dare )
If you're not a TOTAL beginner, we guarantee that you're going to be totally bored at this meetup. This meetup may be for your Mom... or your Brother-in-Law George.
We seriously will be teaching people how to use Copy & Paste successfully... using Ubuntu.
And things like... How to get that photo of yourself that your friend emailed to you... up to your match.com profile.
This Meetup also acts as an Ubuntu InstallFest
This means, anyone who'd like to have Ubuntu installed on their laptop, can bring it... and those techie-types in attendance might just be willing to attempt to install it for you for free.
Techies types: Please be sure to bring all of your install CDs/DVDs/USB drives, for the past few versions of Ubuntu, including the "alternate install" versions.
If you want Ubuntu installed on your computer, bring it with you, including all the necessary power cords, etc. they might need. Bring anything you think they might need.
When you arrive...
Just check in with the hostess at the hostess stand and tell her you are there for the Ubuntu for Beginners meetup. She will put you at a table for 6 that is capable of adding more and more tables as needed.... as people arrive. ( in the big open area, in the back right corner - it's a banquette against the wall with lots of 2-top tables that can be made into one long row ).
Just be friendly. :-) And introduce each new person to every other new person, as people arrive.
The rest will happen naturally.
:-)
