NE Wake: Special Meetup on Content Management [RSVP & Fee optional]
- Date
- 17-18 Jun 2009 (Add to calendar) GMT
- Venue
- (Exact location not available) , Morrisville, US
- Cost
- 5.0 USD
This is a call for a special meetup in the North East Wake County area, on the subject of content management: XML Mashups. This may be a two or three part meetup, depending upon the amount that can be covered.
Members have been asking for more than we actually have time to cover at the monthly meetup. Thanks to Pepper O. we also have day time meetups at the Panera bread location -- but we still have more than can be covered, and some of these are falling further afield of the subject of "design", at least, of the graphical sort. The intent here is to put together training-oriented sessions.
You may want to attend if... you heard about XML but don't understand it you find explanations such as "it is just like HTML only different" dissatisfying, you understand the "how" and "what" of XML, but not the "why", you enjoy designing information, not just Web layouts you could save time or money by mashing up your own data you've built stovepiped databases but reusing the information is costly and painful you want to see some tools and techniques in operation you're out of work and looking to pick up something new
Be under no illusions -- this is not your typical Web Design meetup -- Mitch will expect to do most of the talking, with a projector and examples. The format for the first meeting will be a summary of important XML concepts and a 50k foot overview of key technologies. Follow-up(s) will give a walk-through using desktop applications; and discussion of mashing up XML from Web sources.
PLEASE RSVP: Note that there is an RSVP limit on this event.
FEE REQUESTED: I am experimenting with this new feature on Meetup. Please consider contributing $5 to the pot if you are employed. If unemployed do not feel any obligation to put out: please come anyway. Any funds for this one event will be used to defray the cost of food and drink, or go towards the Web hosting.
VENUE: Anzio's Pizza is located in the Southtown Circle shopping center on highway 401 (main street) within the village of Rolesville. This is about 6 miles north of the route 540 beltline exit onto 401, or 20 miles from the monthly Panera bread location.
ps. If you're in this line of work you'll also want to check out this local conference: check out this local conference.

December Meetup
14km away in Raleigh
It's been a long time since our last meeting. This is a meetup to introduce yourself and let everyone know what you'd like to get out of this meetup. Bring some business cards if you've got them. This mastermind group is to find a group of people that can benefit each other in an altruistic manner. A group of people can succeed much faster with the help of others as opposed to trying to succeed on your own wits. That what this group is about.
