Clojure (http://clojure.org/) is a rather interesting, dynamic programming language for the JVM that is growing in popularity. To quote clojure.org:
"Clojure is a dialect of Lisp, and shares with Lisp the code-as-data philosophy and a powerful macro system. Clojure is predominantly a functional programming language, and features a rich set of immutable, persistent data structures. When mutable state is needed, Clojure offers a software transactional memory system and reactive Agent system that ensure clean, correct, multithreaded designs."
I decided that it was time to take a closer look at this language after hearing about a startup that has successfully built and deployed a Clojure application.
So bring your laptops and let's write some Clojure code.

Justin Swanhart - Flexviews & managing large amounts of data in MySQL
7km away in San Francisco
Managing large amounts of data in MySQL can be very difficult. In order to quickly answer queries, summary tables are often created which contain aggregated data from one or more table. Maintaining such aggregations is often problematic as it is often accomplished with a patchwork of SQL scripts and cron jobs. Flexviews is a toolkit which includes tools for the creation of such tables, while also making a large subset of them incrementally maintainable.
