In the smart phone world, native apps are king, so can the mobile web still compete? You decide in this JavaScript meetup.

Michael Smith, senior developer at Magnani Caruso Dutton, will give a tutorial on building mobile web apps with JavaScript built especially for WebKit-based mobile browsers (i.e., iPhone, Palm Pre, etc.).

Front-end developers interested in building mobile web applications will learn how to utilize HTML5 and Javascript's newest features to begin building applications with interfaces that feel almost native.

The tutorial will start with a code explanation and demonstration. Followed by an introduction to client-side storage via JavaScript. And finish up with a discussion on browser and framework support and best practices in mobile development.

It takes care of many of the fiddly details that make plotting a hassle (like drawing legends) as well as providing a powerful model of graphics that makes it easy to produce complex multi-layered graphics."
