Our monthly general interest meetings include educational presentations and networking, focused on current developments in multimedia, web technology, and the digital arts. Special guests and members share tips and techniques for popular digital applications, showcase computer hardware & software and camera equipment, and discuss best business practices for multimedia professionals, especially those who are developing their own enterprises.

Topics are selected to have broad appeal across the various multimedia disciplines.

[b]PROGRAM: Discovering Rich Media: An Introduction and Exploration of Impactful Online Advertising [/b]

The speaker for our October meeting will be Chris Baughman, AVP Creative Strategy at the company PointRoll. PointRoll enables advertisers, agencies and publishers to create engaging advertising that connects with consumers by creating an interactive online environment that generates conversion. Powering more than 70% of all rich media campaigns online, PointRoll empowers clients to deliver and measure interactive advertising while pushing the creative envelope. PointRoll works with more than 800 advertisers, and their technology is accepted by thousands of online publishers, including ESPN, MSN and AOL.

Chris will be discussing the following topics:

• What are display ads, and a brief history of online advertising from the first click-thru ad, to the current landscape of Rich Media. • What is "Rich Media"? – a brief explanation and demonstration of the various types of ad units that the name encompasses. • Bringing the microsite into the macro-site – how to drive consumer experiences and interest by allowing them to engage with your brand on their terms. • Engaging creative – what differentiates successful ads form the rest? • The emerging trend to go big online, and cutting edge and what that often entails to make happen. • Taking the best bits, and making amazing creative – examples of great creative that was more clever in their execution than splashy. Focus on innovation! • Partnering with your Rich Media vendor to make successful campaigns happen.

Chris originally joined PointRoll as an art director, working with clients to help brands and creative agencies understand the possibilities of Rich Media before relocating to Los Angeles to lead PointRoll’s creative services team in the west. Prior to his current role Chris was an associate creative director with Crew Creative, managing their display business where he led a team in the development and execution of rich media campaigns from conception to design and build-out.
