The October session of the Atlanta Silverlight Meetup Group will build on the Silverlight Firestarter held in August by looking at the underlying architecture of a Silverlight application.

Rik Robinson, Senior Consultant at Wintellect, will present on Prism and MVVM for Silverlight. As usual, we will meet at 5 Seasons Brewing. They have kindly set aside a private room for us.

Title: A Look at Prism

Abstract:

The Composite Client Application Guidance (Prism) is designed to help you more easily build modular Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and Silverlight client applications. This presentation will introduce Prism, its Goals and Benefits, and the concepts of Modularity and UI Composition and how Prism addresses these in a Silverlight application. We will walk-through the creation of a sample application using Prism and discuss how all the pieces work together to create a modular and extensible framework for your Silverlight applications. Additionally, we will be introducing and incorporating the Model-View-ViewModel pattern into our sample application.

In November, we tentatively have Silverlight luminary Shawn Wildermuth scheduled to talk about writing Line-of-Business applications using SL.

Looking forward, we are very interested in the direction the Atlanta Silverlight community would like the Meetup group to go in. Silverlight spans both the world of data-driven applications as well as high-end user experience. After sharing some brick-and-mortar presentations on application development, we would like to start tackling the more subtle but high-value issues of building a compelling visual experience with SL. If you have ideas about this, just let Roger, Corey or James know.
