Speaker: Fred Davis
Just in time for the holiday season, Fred Davis, author and a founder of the Ziff-Davis computer publishing division, will reveal the facts and the hype behind the dizzying array of electronic gadgets and gizmos on the market today.
These gadgets and gizmos promise to organize your life, provide hours of entertainment or keep you connected with breaking news and upcoming events, but many of these products have features and benefits that are not even marketed or advertised. Davis will take a critical look at the notebooks, iPods and digital cameras and camera phones on the market today, and will share his insights into the best bets and the best buys of the season.

Happy 2009 Holidays SF Ruby Meetup
14km away in San Francisco
I'm scheduling this Meetup a little earlier in the month to avoid conflicts with the never-ending Holiday parties. There are already a bunch of talks and I'll update this page with the details once I nail them down. Perhaps we should do a food/toy/charity drive or something... [divider] Send me your ideas, suggestions, etc.

Sassy Ruby Starts the New Year

Can't believe I'm scheduling an SF Ruby Meetup for Jan 2010 in November. However, AmyL may be giving a talk about Sass & Haml, and so here we are. Stay tuned for more details as she works out her presentation. [divider] As usual, I'm looking for presentations, and venue/food/drink sponsors.

Justin Swanhart - Flexviews & managing large amounts of data in MySQL
14km away in San Francisco
Managing large amounts of data in MySQL can be very difficult. In order to quickly answer queries, summary tables are often created which contain aggregated data from one or more table. Maintaining such aggregations is often problematic as it is often accomplished with a patchwork of SQL scripts and cron jobs. Flexviews is a toolkit which includes tools for the creation of such tables, while also making a large subset of them incrementally maintainable.

Selenium-related Lightning Talks
14km away in San Francisco
Please join us as we bring the first year of the #sfse Meetup group to a close by inviting members to present a 5-minute or under lightning talk on a Selenium topic of their choosing. We'll schedule enough time for five to ten members to present and in the spirit of the holidays reserve more time for networking and socializing. Note, we'll need a minimum of ten volunteers.
