New Jersey Tech Drinks December Meetup

    9km away in Berkeley Heights

Ok, folks, I'm making the executive decision to move Tech Drinks a little north this month. Then next month we will have it in East Windsor on the same day as NJDotNet user group. Possibly we could rotate monthly, we will see how this works out. If you were previously planning on attending and now can't make it please let me know, if there is a demand we will keep it in New Brunswick. Delicious Heights is awesome, they have a great bar. I'm going to see if I can wrangle us some drink specials.

Exploring data with ggplot in R

    20km away in New York

"ggplot2 is a plotting system for R, based on the grammar of graphics, which tries to take the good parts of base and lattice graphics and none of the bad parts. It takes care of many of the fiddly details that make plotting a hassle (like drawing legends) as well as providing a powerful model of graphics that makes it easy to produce complex multi-layered graphics." From: / One of the great things about R is the inbuilt plotting and data exploration tools.

    The Lift Web Framework

    20km away in New York

Harry Heymann, from foursquare.com, will present an introduction to the Lift web framework. He will cover Lift's "view first" architecture, writing interactive AJAX style interactive webpages, the Lift security model, and Mapper (Lift's ORM layer). He will draw on examples from the foursquare codebase. If you've never used Lift before this talk should give you a good overview of its capabilities, and pointers on how to get started using Lift with your own project.
