Information on this weeks presentation:
About The Presenter: Brian is a long-time Java developer and enterprise architect (lots of ESB and service-oriented projects), with happenstantial real-world cloud experience in the past few years including: developing a custom, open-source storage cloud for the NIH; cloud-based image processing and computing research for Canon. Brian interest in Hadoop and HFS, and functional and logical programming (Scala and HOL), within the context of Big Data processing, are more recent infatuations.
About the talk: Brian is presenting an introductory talk on setting up ad using Haddop and HFS in the Amazon Cloud for ad hoc, Big Data processing. Brian will demonstrate using the Cloudera images for Hadoop and HFS to very quickly set up a cluster for processing the US 2000 Census data set. The Census data set is particularly well-suited to MapReduce processing because of its flatfile format and large size. Brian will demo coding MapReduce productions in Java against this data set. Your take-away will be some easy-to-use tools and techniques for Hadoop and HFS Big Data experimentation for fun and profit.
