checkboxlist disabled forecolor

  I'm using .net 2.  When a checkboxlist has only one item, I'm wanting to force a check and then disable so the user cannot uncheck the box.  The only problem is that the forecolor then becomes some half-shade with a shadow.  I've tried explicitly setting the forecolor after the disable code, but it doesn't work.  I can change the back color, but that doesn't help me.  I basically want the box checked so the user cannot uncheck it without changing the appearance.  Anybody know a trick for this?
