  YES it is, but if you download some enhancement tools you can make sharepoint move fast and smoothly. As my experience goes, I know a web site I commended those tools from this site to my clients and they are quite happy with them. WHY do you try it?   you can find a product called permission boost, which can perfectly solve the security issue.
