HP Tablet Killed Off? and iPad 3G released

What’s happening to the “tablets” in the Microsoft space?

Erik hopes that there’s a secret super cool project from Microsoft waiting in the wings… But most of the time there isn’t :(

Kelly is tired of waiting.  That’s why he bought an Android phone.

He is buying an iPad 3G.

Erik asks whether or not you can bolt on a *good* touch interface on top of a desktop OS?

Brian urges caution.  UX issues are potentially problematic.

Kelly points out that users want a marketplace.  For him, it’s all about the apps.

Erik thinks that re-using code and building on mouse events, focus events will not out-smart the users.  They’ll use.

Brian points out that with touch, there can be multiple points of interaction with touch.  This is in stark contrast to the mouse.

Brian asks if WP7 will scale up to tablet level

Erik points out that Apple faced the same thing with OSX versus iPhone OS on the iPad.  They chose iPhone OS, and Erik hopes that the powers that be in Microsoft make a similar choice.

Erik points out that for the best practitioners of Ux: interfaces will change between devices.   Application code can be reused but the UI cannot be reused across desktop, phone and slate devices.
