Google to sell YouTube targeted ads

Google’s online video sharing website YouTube, which claims over 130 million unique monthly visits, is to offer advertisers new methods to promote their videos.

Firstly, anyone who has posted a video on the site will be able to promote it next to search results, using a system very similar to that used on the main Google search engine. The New York Times reports that both large studios and single users will be able to bid on keywords, and have their adverts displayed to the side of search results in an order depending on relevance and how much they bid per click, among other things.

Google are also beginning to run video ads while users are watching videos on the site, according to the BBC. These will take up 20% of screen space and start playing 15 seconds after a video is started, but will disappear again after 10 seconds if the user doesn’t interact with them.

More details are available on the official Google blog.
