Tutorial
If you are new to Windows Sockets programming, SocketWrench
will help you obtain a greater understanding with the document An Introduction to TCP/IP Programming that includes a
complete tutorial to create a client and server application. You'll
also find great benefit in going through the sample applications
that are included.
Client/Server Applications
The Windows Sockets control included in the SocketWrench package
gives you all of the functionality you need to write both client
and server applications. Unlike other packages which provide client-only
services, or require you to learn how to use two (or more) controls,
you can build virtually any type of application with SocketWrench
using either the TCP or UDP protocols.
Dial-Up Networking
Included with the SocketWrench package is a Remote Access
Services (RAS) dialer control. This component allows you to easily
manage dial-up networking sessions under Windows 95 or Windows NT
directly from within your application. Instead of depending on the
autodial feature, you can take direct control of the session (including
determining if a dial-up networking session is already active and
monitor the connection status).
Freeware License
The SocketWrench package is completely free, and may be used to
create freeware, shareware or commercial software packages without
any runtime licensing fees or royalties. For more information about
the license, refer to the licensing section of our Frequently
Asked Questions document on-line.
SocketTools Visual Edition
SocketWrench is a subset of our popular SocketTools
Visual Edition package. This commercial toolkit includes
nineteen controls that implement a wide variety of the popular Internet
application protocols. If you're doing commercial software development
and need to send or receive email, transfer files, download news
articles or connect to servers over the Internet, then SocketTools
is the only package that you'll need. For developers who prefer
a lower-level interface to the protocols, we also have the Library
Edition which provides you with dynamic-link libraries instead
of visual controls. All of the SocketTools editions are available
to download with a thirty day evaluation license.
