FlashBrighton: OpenFrameworks with Hellicar & Lewis - Hove, United Kingdom
happened 3 years ago
My name is Primo Mentiroso. I live in a part of Bishopsgate in London where a fragment of dry stone wall still stands*, which I can see from my kitchen window. It curves beyond a modern office block fifty metres away, with a sweep that suggests it might go on forever. Wondering if this might be true, I have tried many times to approach the wall, but to no avail. The passageways that surround it always led me away, towards a main road.

FlashBrighton: Introduction to Unity3D - Hove, United Kingdom
happened 3 years ago
No one would have believed in the first decade of the twenty-first century that the world of Flash 3D was being watched keenly by a 3D system immeasurably superior to ours. Yet across the timeless voids of the Internet the creators of Unity3D regarded our world with envious eyes, and slowly and surely they drew their plans against us. The Unitians' mathematical learning is evidently far in excess of ours.

Tim Jobs strode out onto the darkened stage dressed in his trademark grey polo neck. The soft murmur of anticipation was replaced by whoops & applause as the iconic Apple&Gate logo appeared on the screen behind him. As the noise slowly died away he began his address. 'I've been looking forward to today. We've been working on an incredible new experience. It's a real game changer, let me show you. BOOM!' He pressed a small handheld device and walked to the side of the stage.

FlashBrighton: iPhone Dev (part 1 of 2) - Hove, United Kingdom
happened 3 years ago
'The name's Bond. Paulo Bond.' Bond looked out of the window of the Orient Express. The train came around sixteen coaches long, and Bond shook the hand of the man who had just stepped onto it. His beige moustache and well-worn Macintosh gave him away as an English agent. Bond found himself staring into cold eyes that gave nothing away. 'I'm Captain Nash, old man. M sent me personally. What's this business about?

M looked up as Paulo Bond entered his office. 'Good job on the Orient, Bond. Sorry about that Nash chap, MI5 hadn't pinned him as a Ruski.' 'Not at all M. One needs the practice from time to time. He was... interesting, shall we say?' 'Hmm, interesting, yes,' mused M abstractly as he shuffled some papers. 'Listen Bond, New problem on the horizon I'm afraid; a Dr Gorner, illegal pharmaceuticals or something. Your work with the iPhone was excellent. We need you to continue with that.

FlashBrighton: Hype in Wonderland - Hove, United Kingdom
happened 3 years ago
Branden Alice came across a clearing in which a tea party was taking place. A Mad Hatter and the March Hare were perched at the end of a long table. In-between them sat a sleeping Dormouse, whom they used as a cushion, as they talked to each other over his head. The table was covered in long AS3 classes, boring Flex apps, and heavy technical manuals. Alice sat down at the far end. 'Have some fun,' said the Hare invitingly. 'I don't see any fun,' Alice remarked, peering around the table.

FlashBrighton: RobotLegs & Signals - Hove, United Kingdom
happened 3 years ago
The blackened dome of the Flex Castle rose like a cathedral of misery over Owen Steamboy's head. No sunlight penetrated the gloom. The ceaseless din of steam-driven pistons echoed around the chamber like marbles in a tin box. Men in boilersuits scurried across high scaffolds, turning wheels and pulling levers. Pipes & valves covered every surface, belching smoke & steam like vents of pure Hell. It was a prison of his own devising.

FlashBrighton: Introduction to Blender - Hove, United Kingdom
happened 3 years ago
Tim Vaughan and Alison G. Ballard stood on the motorway bridge and watched the traffic below. The view mentally took them to a crash site. The image of their car, sliced into shards, tearing through the soft upholstery of Elizabeth Taylor's limosine, as it struck the limo's nearside front wheel arch and shattered the windscreen, was familiar to them now. Their Shepperton design studio was plastered with projections they had calculated with a piece of 3D software called Blender.

FlashBrighton: State Machine 101 - Hove, United Kingdom
happened 3 years ago
Neil Smith awoke to find himself in a plain room, strapped to a chair, facing Seb O'Brien. The room filled with a harsh brightness, and O'Brien waited whilst Smith took it in. Smith had once believed that O'Brien was a comrade, but he could see that O'Brien was part of the state machinery all along. 'You asked me once,' said O'Brien, 'what was in Room 101. You knew the answer already. Room 101 contains the worst thing in the world. That differs from person to person.

FlashBrighton: Flash, Perl & iPhone MashUp - Hove, United Kingdom
happened 3 years ago
His uniform immaculately pressed, Paolo Fierro entered the debriefing room, holding his officer's cap tightly across his chest. The room was large, oak lined, and mostly empty except for an line of military portraits, a US flag draped in the corner, and a imposing wooden desk, behind which sat his commanding officer, General Jack Ryan. He saluted the General crisply. 'Sir!' Ryan looked up distractedly. 'At ease Fierro' he said, putting down his fountain pen and leaning backwards.

FlashBrighton: Making a Flash game in 10 days - Hove, United Kingdom
happened 3 years ago
The hobbit Tim Baggins stared into the deep, dark wood, and curled his toes nervously. Dusty cobwebs hung from the twisted boughs and not a single shaft of sunlight penetrated into the gloom. The air hung thick and motionless like treacle. 'We're not going in there... are we?' He turned and looked up at the dwarf king Owen, son of Thráin.
