In The Brain of Bodil Stokke, ClojureScript all the way down - London, United Kingdom
happened 8 years ago
Node.js is really hip these days. Of course, a barrier to adoption for any sensible programmer is the fact that while the opportunities it provides for network programming are shiny and brilliant, it expects you to write your code in Javascript, a language born with so many design flaws it makes you pine for the halcyon days of COBOL. We've had a solution to the Javascript problem for a while now, though.

As we've seen (see what you missed), Node.js is all the rage these days. Great model, but you better like JavaScript and the V8. Ever wondered what Node would look like on the JVM? Just ask Matt Stine to tell you about Vert.x!Vert.x is a new framework for writing easily scalable applications. It is the marriage of the event-driven, non-blocking I/O programming model popularized by Node.js with the proven performance and concurrency found on the JVM.

happened 8 years ago
Organised by nodejs
Beyond toys: deploying a production node app to the cloudAll platforms begin as toys - fun to play with, but impractical for everyday use. Some demonstrate business value and spawn early deployments that are kept alive via hacks and prayers. Eventually, stable deployment patterns emerge and then even non-experts can deploy with confidence (hello, PHP).Node.js is growing beyond its toy phase, and your deployment strategy should grow with it.
