For those who are unaware of lightning talks, they are short, fast paced talks (20 slides, 20 seconds per slide) lasting for not much more than 5 minutes each. The London Lua user group covers all aspects of the Lua language.This talk looks at ljsyscall, a project to expose the Linux kernel interface to Lua, everything from files and sockets to networking, processes and timers. Using the new LuaJIT ffi interface makes this easier than it might otherwise be, and it has the performance of C code. This will cover what you can do, and some helpful hints about interfacing with C code.

This month we have a talk by Jenny Wong on Frontend in 2012. As much as we all love PHP, what about all those things it needs to get along with? The talk will cover the current state of play in subjects ranging from HTML5 and responsive design, all the way back to the browser wars.
