Make Mine Mobile! I'm totally psyched about getting a smartphone this summer. So, I immediately started looking into what it would take to make mobile-friendly websites. Come along as I survey the mobile landscape, and explain the limits and potentials of this hot topic. You don't have to own a smartphone to get a lot out of this month's exciting presentation. In addition, I'll be giving a brief demo of Balsamiq, a tool for prototyping user interfaces and discussing why this tool ROCKS.

Mike Creuzer has graciously offered to present tools & techniques for squeezing more performance out of your LAMP stack server. And, of course, we'll have the usual great conversation and great food.

Lint - A tool from the programmers' days of olde. PHP Lint and JSLint (for Javascript) analyze your code looking for syntactical issues and potential security holes. They wont prevent you from making bugs, but they will keep the stupid little ones from getting through. Cufon - Uses Javascript to replace any text on your page with a graphical equivalent in the font of your choice. This is a great alternative to making static images for your text (a pain when the text has to change).

Let's talk about output buffering. Sure, it's easy to turn on -- either one line of code, or a one-line change to php.ini, right? But once you've enabled this PHP feature, what can you do with it?It's how CMSs cache pages. It's how you can modify links before the page is sent to the browser. It's just plain awesome.Come explore the power of PHP's output buffering feature with the West Suburban Chicago PHP Meetup!
