This month, we will delve a little deeper and introduce the Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS). Amazon RDS is a web service that makes it easy to set up, operate, and scale a relational database in the cloud.

In some circumstances, virtualization may be a suitable solution for scaling out your database environment by enabling you to easily deploy additional instances of a pre-configured MySQL server and application environment to new virtualization hosts.

Installing and Configuring MySQL Based on feedback from you, we're taking a different approach to our monthly events. We'll take a step back this month to discuss the installation and configuration of MySQL. We will walk through installations on different platforms and show how different configuration parameters effect server performance. We will highlight parameters in the config file and review some basic user and admin commands.

Drizzle: A High-Performance Microkernel DBMS for Scale-Out Applications AbstractDrizzle is a community-driven project based on the popular MySQL DBMS that is focused on MySQL's original goals of ease-of-use, reliability and performance. The Drizzle team is removing non-essential code, refactoring the remaining code, switching to a microkernel architecture (with well-defined APIs) and generally making Drizzle into a lean, mean query-running machine. Participation is easy and fun.
