There is an unprecedented opportunity right now for the people to improve government from the outside in, working together with cooperative government officials. The open government group is a clearinghouse for new tools and strategies in this space. We'll share ideas and resources, map the territory, build coalitions, support each others' work, and participate in real initiatives.
Following up on any topics discussed at the meetup is encouraged at the mailing-list located here:

This meetup group is non-partisan and member-managed.
We don't have any upcoming events for this user group. Do you know this group? If so, why not submit a future event? We also support iCal, EventBrite and Meetup feeds.

It's a new political year. The NYC administration has some fresh faces, some familiar ones, and lots of opportunity for incorporating new ideas. It's our job to show our representatives and officials the power of openness, and help them implement new solutions. Your Open Gov NYC organizer is kicking things off by making some resolutions. 1. More Better Events I'm going to devote more time this year to making the events better executed, better attended, and more inclusive.

5-6 Oct 2009 in New York, United States
The monthly Open Gov meetup returns with a special focus on elections. The primary will be complete, but we'll have a month until the actual elections on November 3rd. This doesn't leave us much time to do an election related group project, but why not get together and see the various open gov related efforts in this field. This will be an informal presentation session.

It's safe to say that our voice is being heard. Councilmember Brewer has introduced sweeping open data legislation, while Mayor Bloomberg has announced a series of exciting open gov initiatives. At the same time, there is already deep disagreement about how to proceed. To get caught up on the the details of the proposals and the two sides of the issue argument, start here. It's a link to all of the stories tagged "open data" on the Observer's New York Future Initiativeblog.
