Metaverse Meetup

Ever combined the Web, real life(tm), Second Life, World of Warcraft, Google Earth, Nintendo, Facebook and the unfolding human experience into a single thought (which you then Twittered over your iPhone)? Working on an art or web or game or virtual world project? Have an avatar? Are an avatar? Think video games can save the world or that the world is already a video game? (Or think that's the worst thing you've ever heard?) Does Snow Crash ring any bells even if you're way too cool to find it fascinating in public?

Move over Bay Area. Fans of history and the future who are interested in the march of the web into the world and the world into the web unite and make New York the world Metaverse capital! Meeting monthly for dinner, drinks, talks, networking, workshopping, fun, scheming, and events. People actively working on or especially interested in creative, mixed-reality, social web, video game, virtual world, mapping, simulation, or 3D projects highly encouraged.

If that all sounds better than bad you'll probably enjoy the Metaverse Roadmap Overview foresight and research report (which is clearly written and has pretty pictures in it): http://metaverseroadmap.org/overview

Hi, all! Time for another (somewhat impromptu) meetup! We're going to meetup at M1-5 Lounge at 52 Walker St between Church and Broadway, to record some Metaverse stories for PBS Frontline's Digital Nation show and generally chat. PBS Frontline will be sending a camera to record stories, but also bring your own. We'll post recordings to the Frontline site and blip.tv about how we joined the metaverse and what we do there.

  • NYC / Northern NJ Impromptu Metaverse Meetup

17-18 Sep 2009 in New York, United States

Hiro Pendragon and Rhiannon Chatnoir have arranged an impromptu Metaverse Meetup this Thursday, since we haven't had one in a while and a few folks are in from out of town. Come for an informal drinks & Dinner at the Heartland Brewery in Union Square, Manhattan. It's super-convenient as it is 2-3 blocks from nearly every subway and the PATH train. So come, chat and drink and network with other professionals and colleagues from the virtual worlds industry.

  • Second Skin Screening at the Tank Theater

In addition to the Brooklyn Is Watching talk and meetup on the 16th ( ), Peter Brauer invites everyone out on the 8th (**tomorrow/Saturday!**) to see his Second Skin documentary. I saw it at SXSW and recommend it and recommend it as an interesting balance of the light and dark sides of MMO games. You'll see Metaverse Meetup veterans Nexeus Fatale (waddup Leo! :)) and Mark Wallace make appearances in it.Thanks for this, Peter!

Madison Area Software Developers December Meetup

    Middleton, United States

Now that fall (winter?) has set in we'll skip the roof-top and meet in the second-level bar, in the viewing cubby next to the bar if it is available. If for some reason the second-level bar is closed, plan to meet in the downstairs lounge area. We have over 50! members now but I've only met about 15 of you. Please come and share your experiences as a programmer in the Madison area.
