Hello fellow Ruby Hackers and other programming enthusiasts!
The organizers of Ruby Hack Night are organizing a "Hack Day" which will take place on Saturday June 27th from 10am to 1pm.
The event will be free of charge, and open to anyone. Our topic of the day will be refactoring Rails controllers. This will require a brave soul to put forth their Rails code, so that we might, as a group, walk through how one might refactor a controller. I (Matt Swasey) will be leading the discussion, however the code will be available for everyone to review before the event and to hack on throughout the day. We will provide a handout with some common "best-practices" related to writing Rails controllers.
This discussion will be geared towards those who are familiar with Rails and who:
[]Have written a simple Rails application but want to learn where to improve []Are familiar with REST as it relates to Rails, but want to apply it in practice
Want to learn more about the principles of controller design (skinny controller / fat model)
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own laptop.
Here's a run down of the schedule: 10:00am - 10:30am: Introduction 10:30am - 11:15am: Line-by-line discussion of the code 11:15am - 11:30am: Break 11:30am - 12:45pm: Step-by-step refactoring 12:45pm - 1:00pm: Wrap-up
