It's safe to say that our voice is being heard. Councilmember Brewer has introduced sweeping open data legislation, while Mayor Bloomberg has announced a series of exciting open gov initiatives. At the same time, there is already deep disagreement about how to proceed.

The goal of this meeting is to put our heads together and find a way to get to the best possible outcome for everybody involved (especially the citizens of NYC). From 7 to 8 pm we'll eat and drink, and get some ideas going. Then from 8 to 9 pm we'll have a moderated discussion. By the end of it, we'll produce (at least) recommendations for how to proceed.
We already know that members of Councilmember Brewer's team, Sam Wong and Kunal Malhotra, will attend. We're working on getting representatives from the Mayor's Office as well. Any members with connections should go ahead and make invites, or send names and phone numbers my way.
Some important principles: 1. This is an open event. Elected officials are welcome and encouraged to attend, but they have no special standing in this space. 2. We wish to support and collaborate with those working in government. Keep the tone positive and constructive.
