This event is the first of our Open Gov NYC "Open Calendar" program. While we still plan to hold regular meetings every month, we are now inviting anyone and everyone from the Open Gov community to submit events to this list. This is your meetup, so feel free to use it that way. (side note: Matt C will be trveling for 6 weeks starting 7/31, so we need your events to keep our calendar full.) Submit your proposals to the organizer via the meetup site.
That said, we won't post just any event here. This calendar is reserved for events that work in the spirit of openness - transparency, participation, collaboration. If you're not sure whether you qualify, just submit a proposal, and we'll work with you.
The current event, headed up by the office of Council Member Gale Brewer, fits the bill because it seeks to enhance collaboration among members of the tech community around a specific opportunity. Here's a message from Sam Wong:
"On Tuesday, July 28, 2009 from 6-8 PM, at a location yet to be determined, we are inviting all members of the New York City technology community to discuss the recently released Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP) funding that has been made available through the federal stimulus package which passed in February 2009. It is our hope that this event will help galvanize interested applicants around common goals. Please distribute this invitation widely and invite all pertinent stakeholders to attend.
"Contact Kunal Malhotra [[email protected]] or Sam Wong [[email protected]] if you have any questions. Attached is a Dear Friend letter with more detailed information. "
While location is TBD, I'm told it while likely take place in Lower Manhattan. If you want to discuss this event, or the "Open Calendar" concept, please visit our Google Group: http://groups.google.com/group/open-government-nyc
