We will have our regular 15 minute "Update on Internet Topics" session where we update each other on the latest developments in our fields, explore possible collaboration with others and make announcements on upcoming events or search for resources, and then we will feature a hands-on question and answer session by a speaker on a popular and necessary topic: legal Do’s and Don’ts for Internet and New Media Startups, Entrepreneurs, and Professionals.

Some of the topics addressed at this interactive session: [list]

  • Domain names you own or are trying to get, on using a name or term on the Internet that someone else may have claims to
  • How do you protect your own brand names and trade marks?
  • How can you create more income with an online program or entertainment properties that you created or that you think you own the rights to?
  • How can you negotiate licensing a program from someone else for your own business or your own customers?
  • What should you keep in mind when writing up a service contract with a customer of yours, or with partners?

Whether your expertise is New Media/ Internet Marketing or Software Coding, or whether you own a Web business, here is a chance to ask about any legal matters related to your business that you have ever wondered about or that are important to you right now.

Our speaker, Julian Chan, dispenses advice not only on legal matters but also on startup topics of young tech and entertainment companies. He focuses on start-ups structuring themselves for growth, technology companies developing protection strategies and strategic alliances, and larger companies with complex legal and tax structures. He is actively involved in representing publishing, TV, film, Internet, game and music clients. He was General Counsel and COO of Univessence Digital Studios, a game distribution company, and oversaw its growth to $300 million in global revenue.

We plan to have this at the LA County's technology incubator in Altadena, which is near Pasadena. They have wifi activated so you can access the Web during the meeting. We'll have some drinks and sandwiches ready and are asking for a $4 fee to cover that.

We still have room for one more speaker. Let me know if you would like to suggest somebody.
