Advanced themes and frameworks often release new features, security patches and just plain old fixes when new versions of WordPress are released. If you make changes to the core theme files, and then upgrade the theme when a new release comes out, you will overwrite any changes you have made.
Some themes that fall into this category: -Carrington -Thesis -Thematic -Hybrid -iNove and more...
If you are using any of themes listed above, then you want to attend this Meetup.
So how can you change the look and functionality of these themes, and also allow them to be upgradeable? Create a child theme and make your changes there!
Daisy Olsen, the "WordPress Mama", will show you how to transform any theme into a Parent, create a child, and make all your changes there. To learn more about Daisy, visit www.wpmama.com.
Prerequites: -You must be running WordPress 2.7 or higher. Parent/Child themes received support in 2.7. You are running the latest version of WordPress, aren't you?!? -Beginner to Intermediate CSS and PHP skills are a must. This is not a session that will teach you CSS and PHP.
