Ed Helwig will present the first of a series of sessions on Blender (www.blender.org), "the free open source 3D content creation suite, available for all major operating systems." Blender is a 3D modeling, rendering and animation suite that rivals commercial software products such as Alias WaveFront Maya and 3D Studio Max. During the next several months, Ed will explore the history, interface, modeling, shading, character rigging and rendering of a short 30 second movie. We will also explore the robust Python scripting language, gaming engine and post processing in a clustered environment. Blender is for the novice animator as well as the professional, who wants to express the artistic abilities.
The upcoming meeting is open to the general public, and all with an interest in Free Software, Open Source, Linux, BSD, Unix, rendering, animation, and computer graphics are invited.
