Pittsburgh PHP Developers Group December Meetup
- Date
- 2-3 Dec 2009 (Add to calendar) GMT
- Venue
- Panera Bread , Squirrel Hill, US
- Cost
- Free
The September meeting's topic will be working with other developer's code; including working with open source projects and picking up the pieces where another developer left off.
No one particularly enjoys this, but it is often necessary.
Share your ideas about how to deal with both good code and bad code!
Come meet other Pittsburgh-based PHP developers!
We intend to offer presentations and discussion of interest to both beginners and more advanced developers.
Some initial topics to be covered will be: PHP Frameworks - Why, Why Not and Which One? IDE's - Which tool do you use? Using cURL to make the web your slave. Useful *nix commands for PHP developers (you are using *nix, right) And in breaking news, Microsoft has taken an interest in PHP. Come learn what improvements have been made to PHP 5.3 running on IIS.
We will also feature mentoring. Beginners, please bring along any code you are having trouble with. One of our more experienced developers would love to point you in the right direction.

November/December Black Swan meetup
2km away in Pittsburgh
As usual, the holidays throw a monkey wrench into when to have the meetup. The 21s is very soon, and the 29th is still part of Thanksgiving weekend. So I am thinking December 6 at 10:30 am. The book is "The Future of the Internet and How to Stop it" by Jonathan Zittrain. This is now out in paperback. The title is something of a misnomer--it is more about the future character of the internet as open but vulnerable versus closed but secure.

It's time! The next CleRB meeting will be on Monday, November 30th. We'll be continuing from where we left off last time. Didn't come last time? Don't remember where we were? That's fine, stop by the Installfest table to get Ruby & Rails set up on your machine! We have a Rails app setup, but it doesn't do anything. This month we'll be starting our first features test-first using the automated acceptance testing tool Cucumber.
