VPN & MS SQL Server

sql server Sri Lanka

    Hi ppl,

This might be a sort of odd question. I just wanted to If i used Hamachi or another VPN software to network two computers through internet do u think the SQL Server service manager will pick up each others as server (providing they both have sql server installed).

Just wanted to get it clarified. Theoritically i believe it should work but thought I might get some hints from the pros.

If you can help me out that'll be great.

    Thanks a million in advance

Hi joe, Thank you very much for the info. It seems like MS SQL 2005 is the best option. Which one would u recommend? 2000 or 2005? Seems like you cant use nt authentication to log in.

Thank you very much for pointin me in the righ direction

    Go with 2005.

I think MS may be planning to 'disengage' from 2000 soon (http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=2852)... so unless there's a strong enough reason to stay with 2000 (licencing perhaps), I see no reason to stay there. My 2c's worth Indifferent
