• Code retreat

  In our day to day jobs we have the sense of wanting to get it done, that causes to rush. And so we try to cut corners, but sometimes we do not cut the corners in the best way because we do not know enough.During a code retreat we use pair-programming, which is wonderful because you can learn a lot from each other. We write our code using TDD and the known design rules. We focus purely on writing beautiful code, there is no pressure to actually produce a working solution for the problem.

  Legacy code retreatWe invite a group of programmers together for a day, give them some legacy code, and help them practice various design rescue and improvement techniques. The ultimate goal is to practice these techniques in a low-stakes environment away from the code base that probably torments you at work.Which techniques do you mean?

• Code refactoring

  I would like to propose a more technical meetup... one about code refactoring. Most of us are developers (or we were developers) and we all had to/still have to struggle with old code and code refactoring. So, let's meet and discuss what is code refactoring, refactoring to patterns, how to start with the code refactoring, best practices, maybe even with short examples. For this meetup I would like everybody's involvement and opinion because it's a subject of interest.

• Agile game - Workshop about Self-organize teams

  The best way to understand Agile principles is through real experience and workshop games. These provide an excellent platform for learning concepts and new behaviours. This workshop will exercise how a self organize team can be created, which are the advantages but also the drawbacks. It will also show to you what it means to be part of an Agile team.

• Legacy Code Retreat with JB Rainsberger

  Our special host for this event, JB Rainsberger, has tried a new kind of code retreat. It has the same format as the classic code retreat, only we start from existing code - ugly enough to require working on it.In each session of the legacy code retreat we apply techniques for rescuing legacy code. During the retrospective between sessions we discuss what we learned and restart from the initial piece of code. We work in pairs and switch pairs after each session.

• How to start implementing Agile ?

  I would like this meetup to be something like a follow up for the Open Agile conference. At the conference we had presentation about obstacles when adopting Agile, about the pain of doing Scrum, but also about success in adoption of Agile. So, maybe nice talk about what to do when starting adopting Agile, or Scrum or Kanban would be useful.
