The Windows Command-Line pocket consultant is a great nifty guide for Windows power users and IT Professionals alike. It's neatly organized into easy to use technical sections that you can go to directly and get help on from event logging to maintaining disks to administering Active Directory, etc.. Kudos to William R. Stanek for doing a great job putting together this very essential pocket guide!

With the move to Windows server 2008 and Exchange 2007, the command line has been a place that needs to be re-visited. Technology is forever changing, thanks to our friends in Redmond. This book, therefore, is the perfect companion to anyone that is on a server trying to get things done on a regular basis.

There are extensive examples and discussions about command line operations. I have been administering windows servers for a long long time and did not realize that there was so much hidden in the kernel that I dont know about.

This book will help you get stuff done.....if not teach you a new trick or two that you can show off with. The appendix has a dictionary type feel to it, allowing you to search out specific command line functions with examples.

Great book, great price!

-Thanks,

Excellent. Essential reading for any one who works with Windows and wants to do more. The first edition was excellent and covered Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. This second edition is even better and includes Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008.

William Stanek is the #1 windows guru for a reason. His work is highly respected and his pocket consultants are always excellent. The first edition of this book is the go to book for every ITer I've ever worked with. When the second edition came out, I didn't hesitate to buy it and I wasn't disappointed.

I normally don't read technical books cover to cover, but I read this cover to cover within days of buying it. I was amazed at the depth of information and the attention to detail. The author clearly knows what's important and what's not. His writing is clear, concise and no nonsense. Every one who works in IT should get a copy of this book.

The book starts out explaining the fundamentals you need to master the command line. I really liked how the author covered every facet from the basic to the advanced. There's a massive amount of information on maintaining and monitoring computers using the command line and automating it all with scheduling. I didn't know half the tools that are included with Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 or that you could do so much with them.
