I am contacting you to tell you about our LA Silverlight Usergroup April Meetup! Please join us for pizza, refreshments (provided by United Future and DevExpress), and a Great presentation by Seth Juarez on Machine Learning.

Announcements:
1. Addition to the LA SL Usergroup Management Team: I would like to introduce you to Ryan Lowdermilk as he is now co-running the LA Silverlight Usergroup with me. Ryan has been instrumental in securing some great talent for our presentations as well as networking with some giant companies to provide our usergroup with funding, swag and prizes.
2. WP7 Phone Application Contest: I will be giving out the details in the April meeting but basically LA SL Usergroup in conjuction with Microsoft is holding a contest where the member to submit the coolest application to the WP7 marketplace will win a Samsung Focus phone. The phone and a TON of tee-shirts are already in my possession so we need to get started on this ASAP. I will hand out the forms and give further details at the April meeting.
3. April 26 Presentiation:
Seth Juarez has a Master’s Degree in Computer Science and is also currently pursuing a PhD in the same. His field of research is in Artificial Intelligence specifically in the realm of Machine Learning. He is a Technical Evangelist for DevExpress where he specializes in data analysis in conjunction with their reporting toolset. When he is not working in that area, he devotes his time to an open source Machine Learning Library specifically for .NET that is intended to simplify the use of popular supervised and unsupervised learning models.

Practical Machine Learning – Being Smart With Your Data
Put your data to work! Your organization has vast amounts of information that can be tapped to provide meaningful metrics regarding how you should evolve as a company, why not use it? This session will cover two basic topics of machine learning and show how you can analyze your data in a meaningful way to accomplish two distinct things: prediction and distinction.
