SQL Server on VMware? Many of you have virtualized your application tier, and now are either virtualizing databases or planning to do so soon.

We'll discuss the fundamentals of monitoring databases running in a VMware environment.  Dean will explain which metrics are important and how you can get the data.

The presentation will include a five-minute demo of IgniteVM, a tool that gives you visibility to SQL Server on VMware.

You'll learn:

  • Why running SQL Server on VMware works really well – and why you shouldn't be hesitant!
  • About VMware tools that help you monitor performance in the new virtualized landscape
  • Which tools can give you misleading performance data and cause you to make bad decisions
  • Which VMware metrics are important

Dean Richards is a Senior DBA for Confio Software and has helped hundreds of companies solve database performance issues. He specializes in performance tuning of SQL Server and Oracle environments, most recently on the trend to virtualize databases while still achieving good performance.
