Mark your calendars, as our tech talk nights return on July 10th. Our venue has been graciously offered by Bento Miso. We will be looking to have these nights every two months. Also, we are going to be having north editions of our tech talk nights close to Yonge and Eglinton.

Here is the talk lineup for July 10th:

Service-Oriented Architecture

Pitr Vernigorov from Uken Games will be covering a successful utilization of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). SOA helps companies manage and grow infrastructure by separating functionality into modular scalable services. This talk will show how to leverage SOA's benefits without sacrificing flexibility by using examples from Uken's architecture.

Semicolons: Winning The War Of Truth and Beauty Over Truthiness and Abstraction by Phillip Mendonça-Vieira

All software is ultimately a social construct. When we write software, we engage in conversations with our upstream predecessors and our downstream users. In a recent piece of programmer drama, we were exposed to the age old conflict between syntax and semantics; the old gods were cast aside and many opinions on reasonable behaviour were proffered. This talk seeks to explore the social contract we enter with project maintainers, the importance of lowering barriers to entry and advantages the ruby community brings to the table.

JRuby in Production

Tasveer Singh will be giving an overview of the JRuby ecosystem with a focus on the JVM, Concurrency, JVM Language Integration, and Deployment along with a collection of techniques he has used in Production.

Talk Proposals

We are always looking for new speakers to share their knowledge with the Toronto Ruby community. If you are interested, send your talk proposals to Kevin Faustino.
