We've been ignoring this for far too long.... cloud-computing is all the rage these days so we should see how we can tap into its potential from Java.

We are fortunate to have Adrian Cole, the founder of jclouds, come and share with us how to connect Java apps to the cloud. His open-source framework makes it possible to write cloud-portable apps for the likes of Amazon, VMWare, Azure, and Rackspace. Truly fascinating stuff.

"This presentation will show you how to portably access data and setup clusters in the cloud using java. Come prepared with a basic understanding of the cloud and services like S3 and EC2. We will jump right in, detailing the functions of compute and key-value clouds that are portable, and a few functions you should know about that aren't (like images!). You'll learn the basics of the jclouds BlobStore and ComputeService apis. We'll mix in use of cool tools like clojure as well tools you already know like ant. Finally, we'll show you how easy it is to setup your application on a number of clouds using pallet."

Pizzas for this event will be sponsored by Diana Henninger from TEKsystems and refreshments will be brought in by David Sadler from Guidewire Software!

Be sure to stick around until the end to get a shot at winning books and other interesting goodies from Sun, O'Reilly, Packt Pub, as well as a copy of IntelliJ IDEA from JetBrains.

About Adrian Cole:
Adrian founded the open source project jclouds last year, as well as cloudhackers, an open source collective focused on cloud interop. He's also a cloud ecosystem architect at VMware, helping make vCloud Express relevant to developers and ISVs.
