For our February 8th meetup, we are quite fortunate to have Dr. Pinaki Poddar from IBM (and a member of two Java persistence-related JSR expert groups) offer to do a presentation on JEST – a REST-style interaction with Java Persistence API (JPA) based applications.

The POJO based JPA application programming model can provide a natural resource representation for REST. JEST transforms a persistent object graph to a REST resource in JSON or XML representation using new JPA Metamodel API and persistent identity in a generic (as opposed to application specific) fashion. JEST also introduces a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) syntax to translate standard HTTP verbs to persistent operations.

This presentation demonstrates how you can query a database or browse a persistent domain model using any web browser using JEST or access persistent data in JSON from a web service.

As always, expect great food/drinks/giveaways from our sponsors! The gang from TekSystems will be providing the pizzas and Bayside Solutions will be keeping us hydrated with beverages. Stick around until the end to see what cool prizes we're giving away!
