Visual Studio LightSwitch Available For Download

Earlier this month, we broght news that Microsoft had added another application to the Visual Studio family in the form of Visual Studio Lightswitch.

Today, Microsoft have made LightSwitch available to developers to download from MSDN.

LightSwitch is an optimised version of Visual Studio, designed entirely to cater for quickly building user business applications. It allows the convenient setup of “data” and “screens”, which combined together can make it extremely easy to go from simply nothing to have a fully set up database which can be easily accessed and modified through a user interface. Additionally, it features the ability to drop back to .NET code should you need additional power, and can tie in to Office applications such as Excel to export data if required.

Those without MSDN subscriptions will be able to download LightSwitch for free from the LightSwitch Developer Center on Monday. In the mean time, go check out some of the great resources available to help you get started – the MSDN docs, forum, and LightSwitch on Channel 9. Additionally, the Connected Show Podcast episode 35 is out, which features a discussion on the target audience for LightSwitch as well as an assessment of how it may impact professional developers in the industry.
