New version of Fiddler, the web debugger

In a short announcement earlier today, a new version of FiddlerCore was announced. FiddlerCore is the main component of Fiddler, a web debugger built by Eric Lawrence of Microsoft.

Fiddler can debug HTTP traffic from pretty much any application running on your Windows 2000 or later computer. It shows full information about each HTTP request and response on the system, including various views of the information. For example, you may view the HTTP headers in an easy-to-read overview, the raw headers, or even down to the hexadecimal representation. You may also inspect the responses in raw, text, image and many other views which provide a comprehensive way of debugging not only your client application but also a server responding to your requests. Additionally, Fiddler provides the ability to capture requests and make them again on demand with the Request Builder, or auto-respond to certain outbound requests to help you debug on the client side.

The new version of FiddlerCore adds support for .NET 4 and a number of bug fixes including some better logging. Eric states, however, that he will continue to support .NET 2 as well as .NET 4 for the foreseeable future.

To try out Fiddler today, visit its website. Users with it already installed should be prompted to download the update.
