Everyone has ideas. Not everyone can make them happen. Once a month we get together for a weekend to take a few ideas, chosen semi-democratically, and make them real. It's a hackathon, a community, a bunch of fun.
How it works:
Once a month we send out an email for projects. In order to submit your project for a barn raising you must have either:-- taken part (constructively) in a previous barn raising-- sponsor beer, pizza and general goodness for that barn raising The first Friday night of the month we get together, finalize the projects, break out into teams, whiteboard and set roles and expectations for the weekend. Saturday and Sunday we raise our barns. Sunday night, we launch.
If you get funded or turn something into a business based on a barn raising
Each barn raising community asks for 2% of your company in return for helping get you off the ground. 1% goes into a community pool - which you are a part of - so if one company succeeds, everyone benefits. Think of this as a thank you to everyone, and a small safety net for you 1% goes to Digital Barn Raising and service providers to help cover costs (like promotion, legal fees and advice, space, mentors, etc.) and to grow things out. We also hope that everyone who has benefited from a barn raising keeps coming back, and maybe brings their team with them.
