So, I was told from my teacher I just HAD to buy this book for the class. I didn't even open it and if we did use on the rare occasions I looked at someone else's book and then we would go to another book because this one tell us anything. Waste of time better to look for actual Dreamweaver book that one was useful.

I purchased this book when it was first released, and it's already dog-eared! I have to "learn by doing" to grasp the concepts, whether it's on a web project, or exercises. This book not only covers what is (and should be) relevant to designers keeping abreast of best practices using Dreamweaver as a tool, but does it well, and I had no problem understanding the projects as they were written. Also, some of the chapters are a great ongoing resource for me ... such as the one on elastic layouts. Greg and Stephanie know their stuff! Would definitely recommend it to anyone in this profession. I do think that a beginner's knowledge of Dreamweaver, css and xhtml would be helpful prior to working on the projects in the book.

I know a little about web development and have a working knowledge of DW. DW comes with many layouts, which are excellent, but very professional, and thus somewhat complex. The DW layouts were constructed by Stephanie Sullivan, one of the authors. This book emphasizes these layouts, and explains them clearly, and in detail, a huge step in learning CSS and DW re layouts. Much more about CSS is also included in this book.

I gave this book a 5-star, for many reasons. The text is very thoughtfully, and clearly written, excellent syntax, and easy to follow. It is exceptionally well-illustrated with clear titles, lots of space to separate concepts, lists, instructions, and examples, etc.

I have several DW books; but this is still the most well-organized, and clearly written. At my stage no book can make CSS/DW easy, but this book does a fabulous job.

Overall, I think that this is probably the best CSS Dreamweaver title that I have come across (and this is saying something not only because I normally prefer training DVDs, but also because I have accessed a lot of material over the last two years regarding CSS and Dreamweaver).

The explanations are, I think, crystal clear ... but then again, I know a lot about CSS and Dreamweaver. For those who don't have a sound understanding of both ... you may struggle with the 'assumed knowledge' aspect to this book.

I really love / enjoy the 'complete the project by the end of the chapter' format. Also excellent are the exercise files that come with this book - especially the completed webpages that readers can sneak a look at, so that they know exactly what they are striving to create.

Final word, a wonderful book, easy to follow, well set out, great graphics and comprehensive. Be warned though - this isn't a book suitable for the beginner (who should use Lynda.com's 'Dreamweaver CS3 with CSS Essential Training' DVD for a gentle introduction to CSS).

There is always one thing I really despise about these type of books and that is when you follow the exercises and directions to a tee and it never works. This is that type of book. The exercises are unclear, ambiguous and very poorly written.
