Spend an evening with the talented Jason Fruchter. He will be talking about Creating Character Animation in Flash. He will demonstrate a variety of Flash related techniques including: using symbols to create Flash style “puppet” animation, creating key frames to plan out the action sequence, making the character talk using “lip sync”, and how to create emotions using facial expressions. In addition, traditional “hand drawn” animation techniques will be demonstrated which do not use automatically generated “tweens” in Flash, just the mind of an animator! Several examples of character animation will be shown. They represent projects geared toward entertainment, education, and gaming.

Jason is a partner at A and J Studios. He is currently creating character animation and other game assets for Smashing Ideas. He began using Flash at its inception in 1996. While working at NickJr.com he developed game assets including character animation, props, and backgrounds. At Animagic he was Flash Animation Supervisor for the “Speed Racer” pilot. At Nickelodeon Creative Resources he provided animation for Dora the Explorer, Go Diego Go, Backyardigans, Ni hao, Kai-lan, Blues Clues, Fairly Odd Parents, and Jimmy Neutron. In addition to his animation work he also illustrates children’s books for several Nickelodeon properties including Dora the Explorer, Go Diego Go, The Backyardigans, Ni hao, Kai-lan, and Team Umizoomi.

He holds a BFA Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design
